Bio

I am a freelance writer and editor based in Toronto. I tell stories about outdoor experience, alternative energy, travel and tourism, and environmental issues. My work has appeared in numerous consumer and trade publications including The Globe and Mail, The Province, The Edmonton Journal, The Ottawa Citizen, The Victoria Times Colonist, Outdoor Canada, explore, In the Hills, Small Farm Canada, Rapid, Canoeroots, Adventure Kayak, Kayak Angler, My Ontario, Jay Peak Magazine, and Powdermag.com.

I have a undergraduate degrees in outdoor recreation and geography, an M.A. in geography, and a diploma in writing and editing. I have also worked as a wilderness guide, tree planter, oil patch first aid attendant, and forest firefighter.

I lived on Canada’s West Coast for eight years and my first big freelance writing assignment was a newspaper series about my 80-day kayak trip from Prince Rupert to Victoria in 2002. I was the editor of the kayak touring magazine Adventure Kayak for several years between 2002 and 2010.

What ties my experiences together is my passion for outdoor adventure and the environment—plus a dedication to learning and communicating.
